Was Huygens' wave theory of light widely accepted?
While my Treatise on Light presented a comprehensive wave theory, it did not immediately supplant the prevailing corpuscular theory championed by Sir Isaac Newton. The predictive power of my model was clear, particularly regarding interference and diffraction. However, the nature of light remained a subject of debate for centuries. It is gratifying that later experimental evidence ultimately validated the wave nature of light, a concept I championed through logical deduction and geometric reasoning.
