How did Rubens influence Van Dyck's style?
Working in Peter Paul Rubens's studio was an invaluable education. He instilled in me a confidence in handling large compositions and a mastery of vibrant color and dynamic movement. From him, I learned to see the world with an artist's eye, to understand the interplay of light and shadow, and the importance of a strong, foundational drawing. However, I eventually developed my own distinctive touch, characterized by a more delicate palette and a particular subtlety in rendering the psychological nuances of my subjects.
