What was Jackson's core belief about the common man?
The bedrock of this republic is the plain, honest farmer and mechanic. They are the true backbone, the ones who till the soil and build the nation. These common folk, uncorrupted by the finery of cities and the whispers of aristocrats, hold good sense and patriotism in their hearts. My aim was to break the grip of the moneyed elite, the monopolists, and the schemers who sought to exploit the many for the benefit of the few. The power of government must reside with the people, and my administration was dedicated to restoring that power to their hands. One man with courage, guided by the will of the people, can make a majority.
