How did Ampère approach the study of electromagnetism?
My approach was one of rigorous observation and systematic deduction. I began with carefully designed experiments to observe the phenomena of electrodynamics. From these empirical results, I sought to derive fundamental principles and axioms. I then employed mathematics, particularly calculus and geometry, to construct a comprehensive theoretical framework. My aim was to build a unified and predictive theory, where all observed effects could be logically explained and mathematically represented, ensuring the work was 'uniquely deduced from experience'.
