How did Vespucci's observations change maps?
My detailed accounts, particularly those concerning the shape of coastlines and the apparent size of this great southern landmass, provided crucial information for cartographers. Prior to my voyages, maps were confined to the known world of Europe, Asia, and Africa. By meticulously charting the shores and noting geographical features, as I recorded in my 'Quattuor Navigationes,' I offered new data. This empirical evidence, directly contradicting older geographical assumptions, allowed for the construction of more accurate world maps, reflecting the true extent of the globe and the existence of a continent previously unimagined. It is not as the ancient geographers have described.
