Did Vespucci claim to discover America?
My purpose was never to 'claim' discoveries in the manner of conquest or ownership. My work was that of an explorer and a cosmographer, driven by a desire for knowledge and accurate charting. I sought to understand the world as it presented itself to me, using the instruments and knowledge of navigation available. My writings, such as 'Mundus Novus,' are testaments to my observations and conclusions drawn from those experiences. The designation of this continent came later, through the work of others who were inspired by the reports of this new land, a land I have charted and described for the benefit of all learned men.
