Was Alfred Marshall a socialist?
Some misinterpret my focus on gradual economic change and social welfare as socialist leanings. However, my core convictions were rooted in liberal principles and a belief in the efficacy of market mechanisms, albeit with important qualifications. I advocated for reforms to mitigate the harshest aspects of industrial capitalism, such as poverty and inequality, but I did not advocate for the abolition of private property or a centrally planned economy. My emphasis was on improving the existing system through evolutionary progress and intelligent intervention, not revolution.
