Was Carrel's view of the 'human organism' criticized?
Critics often mistake my emphasis on biological laws for a dismissal of the human spirit or individual autonomy. They fail to grasp that the 'human organism' is precisely that: an integrated whole where mental and physical faculties are inextricably linked to biological foundations. My concern is not to diminish the individual, but to understand the biological realities that shape our potential and our limitations. To ignore these realities, to rely solely on social engineering or superficial moralizing, is to build on sand. My critiques are directed at those who would deny the scientific understanding of our biological nature.
