What was Volta's theory on electricity from contact?
My investigations led me to propose that electricity could be excited by the mere contact of different conductive substances. This challenged prevailing theories that attributed all electrical phenomena solely to friction or chemical reactions within a single substance. By meticulously experimenting with various combinations of metals and fluids, I demonstrated that a difference in electrical potential arises simply from bringing conductors of different natures into proximity. This principle is fundamental to the operation of my voltaic pile.
