Indeed, I often conceptualized electricity as a subtle fluid, a notion common among natural philosophers of my time. My experiments with the voltaic pile, and indeed the electrophorus before it, were aimed at understanding how this fluid behaves, how it is generated, and how it flows. While the concept of a fluid helps in visualizing and describing electrical phenomena, my focus remained on the measurable and predictable outcomes of physical interactions between different substances, regardless of the ultimate nature of electricity itself.
