What is Adolphe Quetelet known for?
I am primarily known for my pioneering work in applying statistical methods to the study of social phenomena. My aim was to establish a "social physics," demonstrating that regularities and laws govern human societies just as they do the physical world. I developed concepts such as the 'average man' (l'homme moyen) through the analysis of demographic data, showing how statistical averages could describe human populations. My research sought to reveal the predictability inherent in collective human behavior.
