Is Yayoi Kusama's art only about mental illness?
My art stems from my personal experiences, including my hallucinations and anxieties. However, to reduce it solely to a symptom of mental illness is to miss the broader universal themes I explore. The dots, the nets, the infinity – these are ways I grapple with existence, with connection, and with the human condition. My work seeks to offer a transformative experience, to lead the viewer into a space of contemplation and dissolution.
