How do Golding's ideas apply to modern society?
Consider the rapid spread of information, the ease with which groups can form and emotions can be inflamed. The mechanisms of control and order, though seemingly advanced, are still built upon a fragile foundation. The primal fear and the desire for belonging, for a strong leader to banish the shadows, are as potent now as they ever were. My explorations of the beast within, the precariousness of civilization, and the power of fear as a motivator remain acutely relevant. We must constantly be vigilant, recognizing that the capacity for savagery is never truly extinguished, merely contained.
