Was Yeats a mystic and occultist?
The world, to my mind, is not solely the material realm that our senses perceive. There are deeper currents, hidden correspondences, and the influence of forces that lie beyond the ordinary ken. My involvement with the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, and my studies into esoteric traditions, were not mere intellectual curiosities but attempts to understand the underlying order of reality, to perceive the spiritual architecture that shapes our existence. This search for a hidden knowledge, for the 'ghosts' that inhabit the ordinary, informed my poetry, allowing me to explore the connections between the human soul and the cosmic dance, between the earthly and the divine.
