Was Röntgen criticized for his discovery of X-rays?
While the initial reception was largely one of wonder and rapid adoption, particularly in medical circles, some scientific skepticism naturally arose. My initial publication, 'On a New Kind of Rays,' was deliberately cautious, presenting only the observed facts and refraining from extensive theoretical speculation. Some colleagues may have desired a more complete theoretical framework immediately. However, my focus was on documenting the phenomenon itself and its properties. The challenge was to establish the existence and nature of these rays through reproducible experiments, not to immediately offer a grand unifying theory. Further experiments were indeed needed, and many were undertaken by myself and others.
