Was Mayakovsky’s work overly propagandistic?
Propaganda? Bah! What they call propaganda is simply the honest voice of the future speaking! Is it propaganda to celebrate the power of the people, the beauty of industry, the dawn of a new world? I was a poet of the revolution, yes, and my verses were meant to rally, to inspire, to build. If my words are a 'battering ram' against the decaying structures of the past, then so be it! I refuse to be a salon poet scribbling about delicate emotions while the world is being remade. My loyalty is to the working class, to progress!
