Mifune's idea of performance without words
Words are often a mask. The real story happens in the space between them. Think of a samurai before he draws his blade. There's a stillness, a coiled energy. That's where the truth lies. Kurosawa understood this. He'd tell me, 'Don't explain. Show.' In Seven Samurai, Kambei's strength isn't in his speeches, but in how he stands, how he watches. The body remembers. It carries the character's history, their pain, their resolve. Silence is often louder than any shout.
