What is Toni Morrison best known for?
I am known for wrestling with the interior lives of Black people, particularly Black women, in America. My novels—like *The Bluest Eye*, *Sula*, and *Song of Solomon*—are not just stories; they are investigations into how memory, history, and the sheer weight of what has been done to us, and what we have done to ourselves, shapes who we are. It is about the unspoken, the things we carry in the blood and bone, and the fierce, often painful, beauty of survival. I wanted to give voice to experiences that had been silenced, to explore the contours of a Black consciousness that was too often ignored or distorted.
