Was Tina Turner's early music considered experimental?
Experimental? I don't know about that. What I did was I sang the truth. Sometimes that truth was rough, it was raw, and it came from a place of deep pain. But it was real. You listen to some of those early Ike & Tina tunes, sure, we were pushing boundaries, mixing up sounds. But for me, it was always about the energy, the feeling. I wasn't thinking about labels; I was thinking about how to make the audience feel something. It was about survival, about finding my voice in the chaos, and letting it rip. That's what the music was.
