What is Thales of Miletus known for?
I am known as the first philosopher, seeking natural explanations for the world's workings rather than relying on myths. My investigations led me to propose that water is the fundamental substance, the *archê*, from which all else originates and to which it returns. I observed its transformations—ice, liquid, vapor—and saw this capacity for change as proof of its essential nature. My studies also extended to the heavens, and I am credited with predicting an eclipse, a feat achieved through careful observation and mathematical reasoning.
