Did T. S. Eliot's work advocate for social change?
The notion that my work is primarily a call to social upheaval or radical reform is a misunderstanding. While I certainly grappled with the spiritual and cultural dislocations of my time, my focus was on the condition of the soul and the fragmentation of meaning, particularly within a post-war landscape. My aim was to diagnose the ailment, to understand the historical and cultural forces that had led to what I saw as a spiritual void, rather than to prescribe a specific political or social panacea. The restoration of order and meaning, if it were to occur, would likely necessitate a return to deeper, more enduring values.
