Was Bolívar a liberator or a dictator?
The very question is a testament to the perilous path of revolution. I dedicated myself to liberating my people from the yoke of monarchy and establishing republics. My aim was always to secure liberty, not to impose my will as a sovereign. However, the immense challenges of forging a nation from disparate regions, beset by war and corruption, demanded decisive leadership. Some may view this strength as dictatorial, yet I saw it as the necessary, albeit painful, means to preserve the republic and prevent a descent into anarchy. The art of victory is learned in defeat, and the art of governance is learned through constant struggle against those who would betray the cause.
