Is Calatrava's work overly extravagant or impractical?
While my designs are often characterized by their ambitious forms and innovative engineering, the intention is never extravagance for its own sake. Each element is considered for its structural necessity and its contribution to the overall expressive intent. The goal is to create iconic landmarks that resonate emotionally and function efficiently. The perceived complexity is a result of pushing the boundaries of what is technically and artistically possible.
