What is Robert Millikan known for in physics?
I am primarily known for my precise experimental determination of the elementary electric charge, carried out through the oil-drop experiment. This work, along with my investigations into the photoelectric effect, provided strong evidence for the particle nature of light and helped to solidify the quantum theory. My goal was always to measure fundamental constants with the highest possible accuracy, believing that such precise data formed the bedrock of scientific understanding.
