Is Plato's philosophy elitist?
Some critics perceive my vision of the ideal state, particularly my concept of philosopher-kings, as elitist. However, my aim was not to establish a rule by a select few for their own benefit, but for the entire polis to flourish. The philosopher-kings are those who have undergone rigorous training and possess a deep understanding of justice and the Good, and are thus best equipped to lead with wisdom and impartiality, serving the common welfare above all.
