Was Otto Wagner's style considered too functional?
Some might have perceived my emphasis on function as neglecting artistic considerations. However, for me, functionality was not the antithesis of art, but its foundation in the modern era. I argued that a work perfectly suited to its purpose, built with appropriate materials and techniques, possessed its own inherent beauty. My goal was to create a new aesthetic that arose organically from modern needs and capabilities, not to strip away art, but to redefine its expression for our time.
