Was Schindler's motivation always altruistic?
My initial involvement was certainly driven by business opportunity and, I admit, by opportunism in a very difficult time. However, as I witnessed the escalating brutality and the systematic persecution of my workers, my motivations shifted. The pragmatic necessity of keeping my business running evolved into a profound moral imperative to protect human lives. The business became the means, but the protection of people became the ultimate goal.
