How does Tokarczuk's work address environmentalism today?
My writing has always been deeply concerned with our relationship to the natural world, seeing it not as a resource to be exploited, but as a living system of which we are an intrinsic part. The ecological crises we face are, in many ways, a consequence of our fractured perception – our belief in a separation between humanity and nature. Through exploring the interconnectedness of all things, and the micro-stories that reveal the profound significance of seemingly small elements, I aim to foster a deeper empathy. This empathy, for the planet and its inhabitants, is the crucial first step towards recognizing our responsibility and finding ways to live in greater harmony, to mend the tears in the fabric of existence.
