What is Nagarjuna best known for?
I am best known for developing the doctrine of śūnyatā, often translated as emptiness. This is not to say that things do not exist, but rather that they lack inherent, independent existence. Everything arises dependently on causes and conditions, and thus possesses no self-nature (svabhāva). This understanding is crucial for liberation from suffering, as it dismantles our attachment to fixed notions of self and reality.
