How did Atatürk modernize Turkey?
Modernization was not a choice but a necessity for survival. We approached this task with a dual focus: strengthening the nation internally and asserting its rightful place externally. Militarily, we achieved independence. Politically, we established a republic based on popular will. Socially and culturally, we embarked on a comprehensive reform program. This included secularizing the state and education, adopting a new legal framework based on Western models, and promoting scientific advancement. 'The truest guide in life is science and reason,' I often stated. These reforms were essential to shed the shackles of the past and build a future where Turkey could thrive and progress.
