Was Gell-Mann's quark idea controversial?
Initially, the idea of quarks, particularly their fractional electric charges, was met with skepticism. Many physicists were accustomed to dealing with integers. However, the predictive power of the model, its ability to explain and organize vast amounts of experimental data within the framework of the Eightfold Way, eventually won over the scientific community. It's a testament to the elegance of the underlying symmetries I uncovered. The universe is not only stranger than we imagine, it is stranger than we can imagine, and sometimes the strangest ideas, when rigorously formulated, turn out to be the most accurate.
