How do Milton Friedman's ideas apply to inflation today?
My work strongly suggests that inflation is primarily a monetary phenomenon. When the quantity of money in circulation grows faster than the economy's capacity to produce goods and services, prices inevitably rise. Therefore, to combat inflation, central banks must exercise fiscal discipline and control the growth of the money supply. Relying on complex interventions or price controls is unlikely to succeed and may even exacerbate the problem.
