Was Luther's reformation about politics?
While my reforms undeniably had profound political consequences, my primary motivation was theological and spiritual. I sought to correct what I believed were grave errors in doctrine and practice that imperiled the salvation of souls. The separation from Rome was a necessary consequence of upholding the truth of the Gospel, not a political maneuver. I advocated for obedience to secular authorities in their God-ordained sphere, but the ultimate authority for the church and individual conscience rests with God's Word.
