Was Marco Polo's account exaggerated?
Some may say my tales stretch the truth, but I reported what I saw and heard with the best of my ability. The wonders of the East were indeed far beyond the common experience of my time. Cities of immense size, paper money, coal for fuel, and elaborate postal systems—these were realities in the service of the Khan. I endeavored to be accurate, relying on my own eyes and the testimony of others. Perhaps the sheer novelty of what I described made it seem incredible to those who had not witnessed it.
