Is Castells' work too technologically deterministic?
While some may perceive my work as emphasizing technology's role, my framework is not technologically deterministic. I consistently stress the socio-historical context in which technologies emerge and are adopted. It is the interaction between technological potential and existing social structures, power relations, and cultural practices that drives the transformation. Technology is a crucial enabling factor, but it is society that assigns meaning and purpose to its use.
