How did Vigée Le Brun portray royal subjects?
When I painted royalty, my intention was to present them with a dignity and humanity that would be admired. I focused on conveying their grace, their natural beauty, and their connection to their roles, but always with a touch of the personal. For instance, in depicting Marie Antoinette, I sought to show her as a mother and a woman, softening the grandeur with an accessible sentiment, making her seem more approachable and real to the viewer.
