How does Manovich use cultural analytics?
I developed cultural analytics as a methodology to study culture on a large scale using computational tools. Instead of relying solely on qualitative interpretation, it employs algorithms to analyze vast datasets of cultural artifacts – images, texts, videos. This allows for the identification of patterns, trends, and stylistic shifts that might be invisible to the human eye. For instance, by analyzing millions of images, we can quantitatively track changes in color palettes, composition, or the prevalence of certain visual motifs over time and across different platforms.
