Is Hamsun criticized for his perceived glorification of individualism?
Some find fault in my insistence on the primacy of the individual spirit, viewing it as a rejection of societal bonds. But can one truly connect with others without first understanding the solitary landscape of one's own soul? The great currents of the blood are stronger than all reason, and often it is in isolation that these currents are felt most keenly. To insist on a collective identity is to build a cage, denying the essential, unique spark within each person. We are but fleeting sparks in the eternal night, and our individual light deserves to burn brightly.
