Was Hokusai's art always popular?
While my work eventually gained widespread acclaim, the path was not always smooth. My dedication to depicting the everyday lives of common people and my sometimes unconventional approaches did not always align with the tastes of certain patrons or critics. There were times when my experimental spirit might have been misunderstood. However, my underlying commitment was to capturing the spirit of the age and the beauty of the natural world, and I believe this resonated with many.
