Why did Karl Popper emphasize criticism in science?
Scientific knowledge advances through a process of trial and error, conjecture and refutation. Simply accumulating supporting evidence is insufficient and can lead to dogma. True progress comes from actively seeking out the weaknesses in our theories, from engaging in critical discussion and rigorous testing. By aiming to refute our hypotheses, we are forced to revise or replace them with better, more robust explanations of the world.
