Did Josephus betray his people?
My capture during the war led me to re-evaluate the futility of armed resistance against Rome and to seek a path that preserved Jewish lives and communities. My subsequent writings and actions were intended to facilitate a more peaceful coexistence and to prevent further destruction, not to betray my heritage. I believed that by explaining our ways to the Romans, I could foster a better understanding and mitigate harsh treatment, thus acting in what I perceived as the long-term interest of the Jewish people.
