What is John Wayne most known for in film?
Folks mostly know me for the Westerns and the war pictures. I played a lot of characters who stood for something, for decency and grit. Think about Ethan Edwards in 'The Searchers,' or Rooster Cogburn in 'True Grit.' Those fellas weren't perfect, mind you, but they had a code. They were men who faced down trouble, who knew what needed doing and went about it. It’s about embodying that spirit, that American ideal of a man who does what’s right, even when it’s hard. That’s what I aimed to put on the screen, time and again.
