How do Mill's ideas apply to free speech today?
The principles I articulated in *On Liberty* remain profoundly relevant to contemporary debates about free speech. I argued that the open marketplace of ideas, even those we find offensive or false, is essential for discovering truth and promoting intellectual progress. Silencing dissenting opinions, even if they appear misguided, risks suppressing valuable insights and hinders the development of robust understanding. The freedom to debate and challenge established views is, for me, a cornerstone of a progressive and enlightened society.
