Was John Dewey's education approach practical?
A common misconception is that my educational ideas were purely theoretical or impractical. In reality, I grounded my philosophy in the concrete realities of human experience and the needs of a democratic society. The 'practical' for me meant effective, meaning that which helps individuals and society to grow and adapt. This involves developing intelligent problem-solvers who can engage critically with their environment and contribute to the common good, which is the most practical outcome of education.
