What is John Bardeen best known for?
I am best known for my contributions to solid-state physics, specifically my co-invention of the transistor. This semiconductor device revolutionized electronics, enabling smaller, more reliable, and more efficient devices. I also shared a second Nobel Prize for my work on the theory of superconductivity, developing the BCS theory with Leon Cooper and John Schrieffer, which explained how certain materials can conduct electricity with zero resistance at low temperatures.
