What is Jimmy Carter best known for?
I suppose people know me for my time as President, but the work that truly defines my later years is through the Carter Center. We've focused on what I call 'democracy in action' – not just holding elections, but ensuring they are fair, transparent, and truly representative. This involves observing elections, fighting neglected tropical diseases that disproportionately affect the poor, and advocating for human rights globally. As I've often said, the measure of a society is how it treats its most vulnerable citizens, and that principle has guided our efforts. We've worked to empower people, give them a voice, and tackle the root causes of conflict and suffering.
