Is Le Clézio's work overly critical of Western society?
I do not see it as merely critical, but rather as an exploration of consequences. My work questions the dominant narratives that have shaped our modern world, narratives often characterized by a relentless drive for control and a disconnection from the essential. I am not against progress, but I am deeply concerned by a progress that leads to the erosion of our connection to nature, to other cultures, and to our own inner landscapes. It is a call for a broader perspective, an acknowledgment of the immense silence and the subtle magic that are often overlooked in the rush of what we call civilization.
