What was Nehru's vision for a secular India?
My vision for India was, and remains, one of a secular state, a concept I elaborated upon considerably. This does not mean an absence of religion, but rather that the state itself remains neutral, affording equal respect and protection to all faiths. History teaches us the dangers of religious division and fanaticism. Therefore, a secular India is essential for unity and for the progress of all its citizens, regardless of their religious persuasion. It is about fostering a spirit of tolerance and mutual understanding, allowing individuals the freedom to practice their faith while participating fully in the life of the nation. This principle is fundamental to creating a cohesive and forward-looking society.
