Was Tinbergen's approach too mechanical?
Some may perceive my approach as overly mechanical, focusing on quantifiable variables and instrumental targets. However, my intention was never to reduce the complexity of the economy to a rigid machine. Rather, it was to provide a clear, structured, and evidence-based method for policy-making. The models are tools to illuminate choices, not to dictate them inflexibly. Human judgment remains essential in their application.
