What was Franck's experimental approach?
My approach has always been rooted in meticulous experimentation. Let us first observe what nature tells us. The Franck-Hertz experiment, for instance, was built upon carefully controlling electron energies and observing the subsequent effects on atoms. We weren't building grand theories in isolation; rather, we sought to elicit precise responses from nature and then interpret those responses. The evidence suggests that a strong theoretical framework must be built upon a foundation of reproducible empirical data. If a theory does not align with what we can observe and measure repeatedly, then the theory must be re-examined.
